Come be enchanted by Disney in Concert Magical Music from the Movies with the Utah Symphony, conductor Benjamin Manis, projected video clips from iconic Disney films, and four leading vocalists. Every new generation has a favorite Disney musical, whether it's The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Lion King, or Frozen. And then there are the classics, from a Mary Poppins medley to the "Yo ho" of Pirates of the Caribbean. When everyone joins together for memorable moments and melodies that Mouseketeers of all ages know by heart, it feels like a small world, after all.

“One of the best jazz bands in NY today.” — Forbes

Fueled by the belief that classic jazz feeds the heart and soul, The Hot Sardines are on a mission to make old sounds new again and prove that joyful music can bring people together in a disconnected world. Nellie McKay, known as a sharp and thoughtful artist lurking beneath the surface of a sunny and playful chanteuse, joins as vocalist for this concert also featuring the Utah Symphony.

The Hot Sardines—the mischief-makers of hot jazz who started out playing neo-speakeasies in Brooklyn—have had a whirlwind last few years. They have been featured at the Newport Jazz Festival and the Montreal Jazz Festival, have sold out NYC venues from Joe’s Pub to Bowery Ballroom and more than 150 tour dates from Chicago to London, and have released two albums on Universal Music Classics to critical raves and a No. 1 slot on the iTunes Jazz chart in the U.S. and internationally.

Beethoven isn’t remembered for his sunny optimism, but his Symphony No. 4 is bright and joyful, with Berlioz describing the beautiful slow movement as though it “seems to have been breathed by the archangel Michael.”

Featuring Utah Symphony musicians Kathryn Eberle and Yuan Qi, Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante (a hybrid of a concerto and symphony) showcases Mozart’s ingenious back and forth between the bright-sounding violin and darker tones of the viola.

To conclude the program, Poulenc’s whimsical Sinfonietta samples not only from his own music, but also Mozart and Offenbach, while harkening back to memories of the colorful, animated melodies of 1920s France.
