Season Finale: Mahler Symphony No. 1
MUSIC THAT WILL STIR YOUR SOUL.
We conclude our Masterworks Season with the return of Mahler’s mighty “Titan,” the work that Thierry Fischer selected to launch the recent series of acclaimed Utah Symphony commercial recordings in 2014. Mahler’s love of nature shines through in this symphony, as does his love of folk culture. And, as with every symphony that followed, Mahler conjures up a complex world of moods and emotions culminating in a triumphant finale. The program opens with Haydn’s Symphony No. 9 and a visually and satirical work by Alfred Schnittke, Moz-Art à la Haydn.
