OVERVIEW

Our 2020 celebration of Beethoven’s 250th birthday continues with this season-opening concert, which launches a cycle of Beethoven’s piano concertos featuring world-renowned pianists.

British pianist Stephen Hough returns to perform Beethoven’s monumental Emperor Concerto, a virtuosic showpiece for a solo pianist with orchestra that premiered in 1811.
Brahms shows us his lighter side with one of his most popular pieces – a raucous, tongue-in-cheek medley celebrating student merriment.
Maestro Fischer rounds out the program with music from a tall tale operas by Weber as well as a symphonic poem depicting Elgar’s trip to the Italian Riviera in 1903.

Experience a behind-the-scenes look at the process of bringing our concerts to the stage during our Finishing Touches rehearsals. Tickets include complimentary light refreshments in the lobby prior to the start of the rehearsal. This is a working rehearsal and selections from the weekend’s program will be made at the discretion of the conductor.

This program was updated on April 29, 2020. Strauss’ “Die Frau Ohne Schatten” Suite was replaced with Brahms’ “Academic Festival Overture.”
