Thierry Fischer conducts Bruckner 5
Bruckner’s symphonies are famous for turning the orchestra into a virtual pipe organ—and his Symphony No. 5, with its rich cathedral of sound, is no exception. The composer, self-effacing in his everyday life, poured an astonishing range of human emotion into his vivid Fifth Symphony and ultimately directed all of its energy toward the finale, which seems to suspend time as it pulls together themes from throughout the entire work in a remarkable feat.
