Anna Thompson
Librarian Anna Thompson joined the Utah Symphony in 2024. She came to Salt Lake City after working one season as Assistant Librarian for the Houston Symphony. Prior to her position at the HSO, she was the Library Fellow for the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and Librarian for the South Bend Symphony Orchestra, positions she held for 2 years. During this time, she was mentored by the librarians of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and was an occasional substitute librarian for the CSO.
Anna has served as the head librarian of the National Repertory Orchestra, leading and mentoring the festival’s library team. Additionally, Anna has served as Librarian for the Encuentros festival (project of the Dudamel Foundation & Los Angeles Philharmonic), Assistant Librarian for the YOLA National Festival, and Library Assistant for the Grant Park Music Festival.
A native of Wilmington, Delaware, Anna received a Bachelor’s degree in Flute Performance from the University of Michigan, and a Master’s degree in Flute Performance from Northwestern University. Anna made her start in the orchestra library field during her studies at the University of Michigan, serving as the library intern for the university’s Ensembles Library. Anna also received training as a library fellow with the Sarasota Music Festival, National Orchestra Institute & Festival, and Tanglewood Music Center.
In her spare time, Anna loves hiking, reading, latin dancing, and cooking. She also adores her two cats, Appa and Loki.
