Digital Concerts & Resources

Watch a full-length digital concert featuring some of classical music’s biggest hit! This is a great resource for students and teachers K-12.

THE ORCHESTRA AT THE THEATRE

I’VE HEARD THAT BEFORE! Did you know that some of the most famous classical music written for the Orchestra comes from other art forms? Join the Utah Symphony and Conductor Conner Gray Covington as we explore famous tunes from opera, theater, ballet, musical theater and film. We will discuss the importance of the orchestra to these other art forms and how certain music elements (timbre, tempo, dynamics, and instrumentation) help to tell the various stories. We promise that your students will love watching these iconic pieces come to life.

Below are the pieces featured in the video; click on the names of the composers to access a short biography:

  • WAGNER: Ride of Valkyries
  • OFFENBACH: “Can-Can” from the Overture to Orphee aux Enfers
  • GRIEG: “In the Hall of the Mountain King” from Peer Gynt
  • TCHAIKOVSKY: “Scene” from Swan Lake
  • STRAVINSKY: “The Shrovetide Fair” from Petrushka
  • RODGERS/HAMMERSTEIN: Selections from The Sound of Music
  • WILLIAMS: “Hedwig’s Theme” from Harry Potter

Please fill out the form below to access the concert; you should receive an immediate, automated email reply containing the password. If you do not receive this email, please contact our Education Department.
