OVERVIEW
In an evening led by French-British conductor Stephanie Childress, journey across the Atlantic with works by Britten and Elgar, two of the most popular and distinctive British composers of the last two centuries. You’ll recognize passages of Britten’s Simple Symphony from films by Wes Anderson—the “Playful Pizzicato” an ideal complement to the director’s fantastical, meticulously crafted aesthetic. Then, a delightful (and somewhat bittersweet) performance of Britten’s Violin Concerto from soloist Noa Wildschut, celebrated for her luminous playing and musicality.
Finally, get lost in the rich atmosphere of Elgar’s First Symphony. Wherever you call home, you can’t help but get caught up in all the glory, beauty, and longing of the composer’s distinctly “English” style.
