OVERVIEW
Start your morning off right with a behind-the-scenes look at the process of bringing our concerts to the stage. Finishing Touches gives our audience the opportunity to observe working rehearsals; selections from the program will be rehearsed at the discretion of the conductor.
Music Director Designate Markus Poschner returns with an irresistible program that traces Richard Strauss at his most transcendent—the evening rising from songs that highlight his mastery of writing for the human voice, to the soaring peaks of his massive symphony.
First, Strauss’ Four Last Songs, featuring “Im Abendrot,” is a crown jewel of the soprano repertoire (and of the composer’s body of work) that demands exceptional control, warmth, and emotional restraint.
Then, take a hike! The epic Alpine Symphony is a 22-part adventure featuring all manner of special effects to immerse you in the full power of the orchestra, including bird calls, cowbells, thunder sheets, and even an on-stage wind machine. Hearing this piece live is a rite of passage for classical fans, a thrill for new listeners, and a powerful invitation to ascend the summits of a symphony that feels made for us!
