Schedule conflict? Exchange your Season Subscription tickets for free!

by Jon Miles

If you want to go out more often and reap all the benefits of regularly attending the Utah Symphony and Utah Opera—benefits like closer connections with your friends and family, opportunities to learn and experience new things, and the chance to unwind while listening to beautiful, live music—a subscription is definitely the way to go.

But what happens if you get sick? Or need to head out of town at the last minute? Perhaps there’s that one concert on the schedule you’re really not interested in and you don’t want to waste money on a subscription that includes tickets you won’t use.

You wouldn’t be alone if you were hesitant about buying tickets to a concert six months into the future, and you wouldn’t be the first person who risked a higher-priced ticket or less-favorable seat in order to get the flexibility of buying tickets at the last minute “à la carte” rather than in a season package.

The good news is that you don’t have to make that choice. The Utah Symphony’s Patron Services team is well-known for its excellent customer service, and a mantra we live by is that customers should receive value in exchange for the tickets that they purchase. And by value, we mean that you should get to go to the symphony! That’s why you bought the subscription after all.

This is why one of our subscribers’ favorite benefits is our free and flexible ticket exchange program. This generous benefit is available to anyone who is a current subscriber. Our only request is that you contact us at least 24 hours in advance if you’d like to make an exchange so we have ample time to resell your seat to other ticket buyers. Once a performance has passed, however, we can’t exchange the ticket.

If you need to make a ticket exchange as subscriber, here are your options:

Exchange Your Tickets to a Different Night

Most Utah Symphony and Utah Opera concerts run for multiple nights. If you have a conflict for the night when you have tickets and would like to move to a different night, you can do a direct ticket exchange (e.g. from Friday night to Saturday night). You will be seated in the same pricing section, and while we can’t guarantee that the same seats will be available, we will do our best to seat you as close as possible to your regular subscription seats.

To exchange your tickets to a different night of the same concert, contact USUO Patron Services or request an exchange online.

Exchange Your Tickets to a Different Event

If you’re not available for any of the concert dates or really aren’t interested in attending a concert in your package, we’re one of the only arts organizations in the area that lets its subscribers exchange to a completely different performance. That means you can select any performance within the same season (which runs from September through May) and do a dollar-for-dollar ticket exchange from one performance to another. As a bonus, you can also exchange between Utah Symphony AND Utah Opera performances! Prices can vary from concert to concert, so there may be a small balance due or a credit applied to your account if you exchange to a different performance and there isn’t a seat available at the same exact price. Our Patron Services team will consult with you to find great seats that also meet your budget needs.

To exchange your tickets to a different performance, contact USUO Patron Services or request an exchange online.

Return Your Tickets for Account Credit

If you know you can’t make it to a concert, but aren’t sure when you’ll be able to attend a different event, as a subscriber you have the option to return your tickets and hold the value of those tickets on your account. This account credit can be applied towards any ticket purchase within the same season. If you have a balance on your account, we’ll remind you occasionally and encourage you to use it. At the end of the season, any unused balance will expire and will convert into a tax-deductible contribution to support our education, community outreach, and artistic programs.

To return your tickets for account credit, contact USUO Patron Services or request a return online.

Return Your Tickets for a Tax-deductible Contribution

You may prefer to return tickets you cannot use to be resold and also make a contribution to support Utah Symphony and Utah Opera’s education, community outreach, and artistic programs. Tickets returned for contributions are not eligible for donor benefits, but you will receive a receipt for tax purposes (Utah Symphony | Utah Opera is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization).

To return your tickets for a tax-deductible contribution, contact USUO Patron Services or request a return online.

So why subscribe?

If you’re afraid of commitment, subscribing can be a scary idea, but it’s well worth it. You treat yourself to a few nights out per season to enjoy great music with a community of music lovers and expand your tastes. In addition to that, you get access to presales, the best seats in the house, and you can save up to 25% on your tickets!

So what are you waiting for? Add some symphony to your life!
