Healthcare Night - Ravel, Liszt, & John Adams

Abravanel Hall

OVERVIEW

Since the 1980s, Healthcare Night has gathered medical professionals together at beautiful Abravanel Hall for a special concert, honoring the vital partnership between our incredible medical community and the Utah Symphony. Medical students are invited to attend Healthcare Night free of charge, providing the next generation of healthcare professionals the opportunity to experience the world-class music of the Utah Symphony. The cost of the students’ tickets are subsidized by generous donations from healthcare professionals. These gifts also support USUO’s 40+ ongoing education programs and count toward the 1:1 match in private donations required for USUO to receive public education funding from the Utah State Legislature.

Just try to sit still during Maurice Ravel’s homages to two of the world’s greatest waltz composers, Franz Schubert and Johann Strauss.

Concert Highlights Include:

John Adams’ 1995 showpiece was inspired by two important Russians, Igor Stravinsky and the celebrated author of several witty and erudite books on music, Nicolas Slonimsky.

Joyce Yang returns to Abravanel Hall to perform a work written by, and for, the Paganini of the piano, which took him over 25 years to write.

Ravel hoped La Valse would become a “choreographed poem,” but Diaghilev told him he hadn’t written a ballet but rather a painting of one.
